Tyler R. Tichelaar, Ph.D., has been in love with the Arthurian legend since he first read The Boy’s King Arthur by Sidney Lanier with N.C. Wyeth’s illustrations, and he credits Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon with making him realize the potential for writing new versions of the legend.
Although Tyler considers himself a novelist first and a scholar second, he wrote his Master’s Thesis on the Arthurian legend as a way to accomplish the research necessary for the Arthurian novel he was simultaneously writing. A chapter of his Master’s Thesis was published as “Creating King Arthur’s Children: A Trend in Modern Fiction” in the Spring 1999 issue of Arthuriana.
In January 2011, an expanded and revised version of his initial M.A. Thesis was published by Modern History Press as King Arthur’s Children: A Study in Fiction and Tradition. He is currently preparing to publish in the summer of 2014 Arthur’s Legacy, the first novel in the Children of Arthur series, which will trace King Arthur’s descendants throughout history with stunning results.
Tyler writes on other topics besides King Arthur. You can also visit him at the following sites:

Hello Tyler,
Here is another good book on who the real King Arthur was possibly, This person thinks King Arthur’s Avalon was in France, there’s still a town in France today called Avallon in Burgundy, France. I order my book off of Amazon.com.
Here’s the title:
King Arthur’s French Odyssey-Avallon in Burgundy. by Marilyn Floyde
Thanks for the info, Guy. I will definitely check this one out. Surprised about Burgundy. Usually it’s Brittany that’s associated with Arthur.
‘King Arthur’s French Odyssey-Avallon’ is based on Geoffrey Ashe’s theory of Arthur being Riothamus. She’s posted a few times on Arthurnet about this subject. Whilst I’m not convinced by the theory, it’s still interesting stuff.
Thanks for the additional information, Badonicus. I haven’t had a chance to look up the book yet, but I’m definitely interested.
I just found your site, and I am very much looking forward to reading on.
This is exactly what I have been looking for!
I do genealogy research, and I’m also a university history student. One area of study augments and complements the other. Reading your archival posts is like eating chocolate – I finish one, and I have to have another!
Hi Lynn,
Thank you for the wonderful comment. I’ve found that studying genealogy has taught me so very much about history and I hope my posts make more people interested in genealogy because it really is fascinating the way it shows how connected we all are to one another. Good luck with your studies and thank you for reading my blog.

Hello Tyler,
I see a great deal of coverage on claims all but one U.S President are related to Vlad, yet you show him as one likely to have no ancestors…
(Any insights? I am open to learning; all ideas are welcome. Thanks!)
Hi James,
From what I understand Vlad has no direct descendants – no descendants of his children. However, he had siblings and cousins, and they had descendants. Therefore he can be an ancestral uncle, but not an ancestral great-grandfather to anyone. The book that explores his family tree/descendants that I’m aware of is Dracula: Prince of Many Faces by Radu R. Florescue and Raymond T. McNally, if you want more information.
Thanks for reading my blog!
Tyler
Your books look interesting, looking forward to reading them. My little joke is, my father’s name was Arthur Leroy, Arthur the king, so I am King Arthur’s daughter…haha. It’s interesting that you live in Marquette, I grew up north of Lansing, and it’s beautiful, but the Upper Peninsula is God’s Country. I found you through Mak Wilson, and I’m glad for that.
Thank you for the comment. I love that name, Arthur Leroy! I’m always happy to know someone else loves the U.P. and I hope you enjoy my books.
Love the premise! Can’t wait to read The Children of Arthur series.
Thanks, Sue. Now’s a great time to read them. I should be publishing the fifth book in early June. Enjoy!
Hi Tyler! I love your book reviews and I can’t wait to get my hands on your books. Thought you might be interested in my friend Michele’s Arthurian vacation. : )

Thank you for the comment. I’ve been to both Glastonbury and Tintagel and always love seeing the pictures of them and reading about them. Maybe someday I’ll write a post on my own visits to Arthurian sites – and hopefully I’ll get to visit many more. Best wishes!
I believe I am blood relative of Dracula… as of now I’m at my 28th Grandfather William the Conqueror. You can contact me at StewartsCreekExteriors@gmail.com
